Listening to the album and doing the accompanying activities is a great way to enrich bilingual and dual-emergent classrooms, as well as households where children speak two languages at home. You can use the activities with children who are fluent bilinguals, emergent speakers just developing their second language, or with children who are monolingual and speak only English or only Spanish, to build language skills in their native language. Through the songs and activities, children acquire new vocabulary and academic language – in both English and Spanish – in a fun and innovative way.
The activities are targeted for children ages 2-6, but are not limited to this age range exclusively. Look for notes about how you can adapt the activity for younger or older children, or for children who are at different developmental or academic stages.
Younger children: These activities are appropriate for children between the ages of 2-3, or who may be older but who are not developmentally or cognitively ready for the suggested activities for older children.
Older children: These activities are appropriate for children between the ages of 4-6.
However, it is not our intention to limit your use of the activities! Feel free to use them with any child that you believe would benefit from these highly engaging experiences.
